Nursery Reveal + Top Items Used To Help Your Newborn Sleep

Well hey y’all… it’s official, I made it to the other side of pregnancy… I'm writing to you for the first time as a MOM! Mia James is currently taking a nap in her crib in the very nursery I am about to reveal to you. Man does it feel good to be able to provide a cozy, safe, zen space for her to be comfortable in.

Mia’s nursery is my favorite room in the house. It has such a peaceful energy and the most beautiful natural light that pours in during the afternoon. If Im feeling stressed or anxious (which admittedly happens often during this fourth trimester) , I just walk into her room for a few deep breathes and it really helps to reframe my mindset.

When deciding on a theme and decor for her nursery, I wanted to be realistic. We love our house, but it’s not our forever home and we plan on moving within the next year, so going ALL OUT for a space we will only enjoy for a short amount of time didn’t feel smart. Instead, we worked with what we had, splurged on a few pieces that were important to us, and I LOVE the way it turned out. The majority of the decor is actually vintage pieces from Sam’s + my childhood, and special memories, like the dried bouquet from our wedding day. Even the crib and change table that my parents got us is the same style that I had as a baby. We filled this room with so many memories and so much love long before we brought her home, and that made it even more special.

tip: if you feel pressured to have a pinterest perfect nursery, or one that looks more like a pottery barn ad than a relaxing cozy space, try focusing on adding sentimental pieces instead. It will end up looking and feeling so much cozier, take some of that pressure away….. and save ya $$*

Favorite Items That Have Helped Mia Sleep In Her Nursery:

#1 The Miku Smart Baby Monitor

Hands down best investment you can make for your nursery. I can not stress this one enough because it has given Sam and I SO much peace of mind during her naps and longer stretches of sleep at night. Miku is the world’s first baby monitor to track your baby’s breathing, sounds, and sleeping patterns with no physical contact using newly patented SensorFusion technology. Before I heard about this monitor we had our eye on a different one and also a wearable device to track Mia’s breathing… both of which were going to cost more combined than this, so I am SO glad we got this instead! We have been using it every day and night for a little over two weeks and it has been awesome.

It even tracks her sleep statistics, plays white noise, has a two way talk option, can be viewed from your iPhone from anywhere, and alerts you when she wakes up/falls asleep.

So incredibly happy with this monitor, I honestly can’t recommend them enough.

If you're in the market for one, this link will get you $75 off!

#2 The Ollie Swaddle

This swaddle is SO easy to use and she sleeps SO well with it on. For the first few weeks I was just swaddling her in blankets but once I started using the Ollie her stretches of sleep at night increased significantly (praise be!) I found a discount code (click here) if you need one or want to get one as a gift for someone and save yourself some money!

#3 Goumi Kids

I highly recommend getting several sets of crib sheets and bedding. You never know when you’re going to need to do a quick middle of the night crib/change table cover switch (babies are cute … and messy..) If you have extra sheets on hand you can make a quick change and put your baby right back to sleep and worry about the messy sheets in the morning. My favorite is the Goumi Kids brand! They are super soft and come in several patterns/colors. Check their website for updated promotions and read their story! I love supporting brands who give back and have a heart. #4 A Comfy Glider or Rocker

The style and size will vary based on how much room you have and what your budget looks like, but as long as you have one that you are comfortable in that’s all that truly matters. It’s so helpful to have a relaxing place in the nursery to nurse/pump or just rock your baby to sleep. I love gliding with Mia and reading her stories at night before bed too. I linked the one that we went with, but like I said.. there are SO many options so go test a few out (there are tons of models at buy buy baby) and go with what works best for your space.
