Four benefits of a fitness routine that don’t include weight loss

We often associate exercise with weight loss - but that’s definitely not the *only* thing it can help us with! A few of my favorite effects of regular exercise actually aren’t weight loss related at all.

  1. Better quality sleep: exercising regularly cuts down your stress and anxiety levels, making it easier for your body to relax and stabilize its temperature for a good night’s sleep.

  1. Higher energy levels: when you workout, your heart rate and blood flow increases. In turn, this carries more oxygen and nutrients to your muscles, which helps you feel more energized.

  1. Better brain health (both physiologically & mentally!): exercise triggers your brain to release endorphins like serotonin and dopamine, reducing stress and improving your mood. Plus, the increased blood flow to the brain from exercise can help offset certain brain conditions like dementia and Alzheimer's later in life.

  1. Improved productivity: you know those endorphins we talked about? Yeah - a boost of those from a good workout can also help you feel more motivated to get up & tackle the day!

Weight loss definitely doesn’t have to be your primary goal when exercising. Next time you’re struggling to fit movement into your day, remember these additional benefits — it’s going to help you in ALL aspects of your life, not just in weight loss!
